Oracle RDBMS 11G Installation

I finally get around to installing the Oracle RDBMS software.

I am following the Oracle® Database Quick Installation Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1) for Linux x86 manual following from the previous steps which concentrated on getting the operating system into shape for the Oracle software installation:

  1. RHEL 5.4 Installation (1)
  2. RHEL 5.4 Installation (2)
  3. RHEL 5.4 Installation (3)

8 Configuring the oracle User’s Environment

I only need to run the following commands:

$ export ORACLE_BASE=/opt/oracle/app

9 Mounting the Product Disc

I had unzipped the files into /opt/oracle/software.

10 Installing Oracle Database

Change to the directory where I unzipped the software:

$ cd /opt/oracle/software/database
$ ./runInstaller

The installation options are:

  1. Select Installation Method
    • Advanced Installation
  2. Specify Inventory directory and credentials
    • /opt/oracle/orainventory
    • oinstall
  3. Select Installation Type

  5. Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks
  6. At which point, I got the following errors:

    Checking for unixODBC-2.2.11; Not found.	Failed <<<<
    Checking for unixODBC-devel-2.2.11; Not found.	Failed <<<<
    Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<

    4.5.1 Oracle ODBC Drivers says You do not require ODBC Driver Manager to install Oracle Database. I will trust the documentation and mark the check as user-verified.
