11G OCM Listener on GRIDCTRL

Now to set up the listener for the repos database instance.

Since this database instance is used for multiple purposes, I want to split the activity up by purpose. Each purpose will be associated with a service. Services will be created through DBMS_SERVICE PL/SQL package.

There will be three (3) services on repos database with the following purposes:

Network Name Service Name Purpose
dba.repos.yaocm.id.au DBA Database Administrator for the REPOS database.
oem.yaocm.id.au OEM Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control for the entire network.
rman.yaocm.id.au RMAN Recovery Manager for the entire network.

Firstly, I define the three (3) services with default options:

begin
    dbms_service.create_service( 'RMAN', 'RMAN.YAOCM.ID.AU' );
    dbms_service.create_service( 'DBA',  'DBA.REPOS.YAOCM.ID.AU' );
    dbms_service.create_service( 'OEM',  'OEM.YAOCM.ID.AU' );
end;
/

Secondly, I start all three (3) services on the local instance:

begin
    dbms_service.start_service( 'RMAN', NULL );
    dbms_service.start_service( 'DBA',  NULL );
    dbms_service.start_service( 'OEM',  NULL );
end;
/

Used netca to create the listener with the following parameters:

  • LISTENER
  • 1521
  • Protocols supported
    • TCP
    • IPC

The tnsnames.ora file is:

# tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: /opt/oracle/app/product/11.1.0/db_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

OEM =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = REPOS))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVICE_NAME = oem.yaocm.id.au)
    )
  )

RMAN =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = REPOS))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVICE_NAME = rman.yaocm.id.au)
    )
  )

DBA =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = REPOS))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVICE_NAME = dba.repos.yaocm.id.au)
    )
  )
