Review of OEM 10.2.0.5 Installation

I have tried another two (2) times to get OEM 10.2.0.5 installed using an existing 11.1.0.7 database, and failed dismally. I intend to change tack.

Review of Installation Failures

OS Issues

Missing packages were identified in 11G OCM Install OEM 10.2.0.1 and resolved in 11G OCM Install OEM 10.2.0.1 (2).

Needed to create a soft link (see 11G OCM Install OEM 10.2.0.1 (4).

Database Issues

Found that 11G was not supported during the installation of OEM 10.2.0.1 as recounted in 11G OCM Install OEM 10.2.0.1 (2).

The partitioning option needed to be installed (See Add Partitioning Option to REPOS).

Network Issues

IP v6 entries in /etc/hosts needed to commented out or removed (see 11G OCM Install OEM 10.2.0.1 (4)).

The order of names in /etc/hosts was critical (FQDN first) – see 11G OCM Patch OEM 10.2.0.5 (2).

DNS needed to be set up (See Setup DNS on gridctrl).

Other Issues

The ORACLE_HOME was set during the configuration of OMS (not recorded in this blog).

The SYS had to be set to “default” during configuration according to the Support Doc ID 784963.1 (not recorded in this blog).

The ORACLE_HOSTNAME needed to set to FQDN (see 11G OCM Patch OEM 10.2.0.5 (7)).
