Struck a problem today with Logical Standby due to SYS.AUD$.
Three (3) years ago, I recommended and set up a logical standby database for a critical business function. This is now widely viewed as a failure.
Today, we did some rough and ready performance tuning of one of our logical standby database instance.
Had an interesting discussion about the difference between Maximum Availabilty and Maximum Performance for Standby Databases.
I was able to create a physical standby database on rmancat.yaocm.id.au from the one on rmandog.yaocm.id.au, and do a switch-over; a log switch; and a fail-over back to rmandog. All of this done through Grid Control.
I am still having problems with setting up Data Guard. I think my problem has been that I am attempting the more complex configuration (RAC) first.
To overcome this, I am trying to set up a physical Data Guard configuration using the RMAN catalogue with the primary on RMANCAT and the standby on RMANDOG. This should be easier as this is a single instance to single instance configuration.
