Today, I had a DBA give some recommendations for tuning a database. One of those took me by surprise as this DBA is supposed to be a performance analyst!
The recommendations included:
- Disable TIMED_OS_STATISTICS
- Disable TIMED_STATISTICS
My response was that performance analysis cannot proceed without statistics. I am less inclined to trust the DBA’s performance recommendations.
Any reasons given? Was it to solve a specific performance problem? What version is the database and on which platform?

Cheeky, Fred.
The reasons given were that these parameters caused overhead.
Version was 10.2.0.4 on AIX 6.1.
